Adult manga & illustration
Whether you are drawing for the first time, returning after a break, stuck in self-study, or building professional skills, lessons start with the work you want to make and your goal.
Who this course suits
- 01Complete beginners who want to try
- 02People picking up drawing they left behind years ago
- 03People who have taught themselves and feel stuck
- 04People who want to work digitally on an iPad or tablet
- 05People aiming at professional work or showing what they make
What you can learn
Nobody works the same assignments in the same order. Lessons are built from what you want to draw and what you want to be able to do now.
- Drawing charactersThe face comes out fine and then it stalls at the body. We get past that from the balance and the pose.
- Original illustrationTaking the world you have in your head to a piece you would show someone.
- Drawing mangaOnce the panels and the eye-line are settled, the reader moves through the page in the order you meant.
- Applying colorTraditional and digital both. We look for the way of colouring that suits the hand you already have.
- FundamentalsHands, folds in clothing, light and shade — revisited only where the piece you want to make has stalled.
- Making finished workThe order of operations that gets a piece all the way to done, set against your goal.
On starting as an adult
The hesitations we hear most often before a trial, answered plainly.
- Is it too late to start now?
- People drawing for the first time, and people returning after decades, both come here. You start from whatever you can draw today.
- Will it be all young people?
- Students range from high-school age to their seventies. Lessons are individual, so there is no room to be compared to anyone.
- Is it alright to learn just as a hobby?
- This is not only a course for people going professional. Wanting to draw is reason enough.
- I don’t know what to practise on my own.
- We look at what you are drawing now and tell you what to change next to get closer.
- I don’t own a tablet.
- Ask at the trial. We will find out what you want to make first, then tell you what you need. Wacom tablets are available to students at a preferential price.
